The Blackest White Kid You Know presents: Mixtape Monday
Call 'em what you want, but Lupe Fiasco is the real deal Holyfield. I'm sick of people hatin' on Lupe and the so-called "backpack" rap movement. What it comes down to is ignorance. The ones who grew up with the hardcore gangsta-rap just can't get with the times; like an old man who holds onto his Beach Boys records. I'd never expect to draw comparisons to my father and a possible member of the bloods.
But it's true. Lupe Fiasco has well-developed lyrics. You have to cut beneath the layers, like an onion, to get to the good stuff. How's that for a metaphor, bitches? Plus he can still straight murder tracks. And if he can lyrically murder a track without talking about literally murdering, then he's got that much more respect in my book. There's more to rap music than just fuckin' hoes, gettin' dough, bustin' caps in fools...yo. And as the Blackest White Kid You Know, it is my civil duty to make sure that point isn't lost. When you look at it like that, there's not really much of a difference from me and Batman. I'm just sayin'
If we could get on to the mixtape, Enemy of the State: A Love Story, features everything I was just ranting about in the above paragraphs. He delivers his usual heavy lyrics over current beats. Check it out on DatPiff.com for a free download/listen. Here's a free look at two of his tracks off the album.
