Rex Ryan is Wild'n Out

O.K. Rex, we get the idea. You're not here to kiss the Patriots rings. And you're this edgy coach with this cocky barbaric mentality. It's cool. Whatever works for you. But on some real shit, you need to check your tone because you're just wild'n out right now.

Fresh off possible tampering accusations with Raiders lock-down corner Nnamdi Asomugha, good ol' Rexy is at it again. At Herschel Walker's debut MMA fight in Florida this past Saturday, the Jets coach was caught flipping the bird trying to get a rise out of few Dolphins fans. He also stated, "I'm going to enjoy beating the Dolphins twice next year!"

I guess it's all in the fun of the sport, but maybe my fanhood stems for a higher class of football. Maybe that's cocky but a 20-something Patriots fan is not so different than a 20-something Yankees fan. The Patriots, like the Yankees, are a part of the higher class of their respected sports. And I'm sorry, but I wouldn't want to see my head coach actin' a fool at an MMA event. I like to imagine that Bill Belichick is working rigorously alone in a dimly-lit room going over stacks of stats with film from last year is playing in the background. Just like I'm sure Yankee fans wouldn't expect Joe Torre/Girardi to stoop to the levels of the bourgeoisie and taunt Baltimore Orioles fans. They are just better than that.

That's why I was surprised Rex was only fined 50K for such childish antics. And that fine came from the Jets, not Roger Gooddell. While Titans owner, Buddy Adams, was fined 250K for flipping the bird at fans during a game. Perhaps the reason is that Adams did it during a game, but that's a big disparity. And I don't think Rex has earned the right to be privileged as one of the great coaches, especially after one season (while very successful) and pulling childish antics like this.

Three reasons why Buddy was fined more than Rex, in no peticular order of importance...

Buddy Ryan is an owner who has a hell of a lot more money than Sexy Rexy.

Adams has been around the NFL a lot longer than Ryan. While both should know not to do it. More is expected from Adams. Especially when your owner compared to a coach.

What Adams did was directed right at fans of the NFL. The buyers of his product. It was done directly to them at a game. That simply bad for business. What Ryan did was at a MMA event that in no way was related to the NFL.

The disparity makes sense.

I see your point. But while Rex's bird flipping didn't directly occur during an NFL event, he is still directly insulting the fans, the buyers of his product. If the owner of Coca-Cola were to insult of few of his/her buyers on the streets, is he/she still not representing Coca-Cola.

In an age where you are held accountable for everything from what you say and do down to the pictures and statuses you put up on Facebook. In the eye's of the media, if one thing isn't PC it will be called out and a spot light will be shown on it.

So while, yes, Rex Ryan was not on an NFL field flipping off paying fans, he certainly was flipping off loyal customers of the NFL product. It should be the same across the board. There shouldn't be a disparity no matter how much money a person makes.

Well I mean technically we dont know if these were fans of the nfl...For all we know they could have been booing poor rex because of massive physique. If you ask me its the fans that should be fined for picking on the fella. Its not his fault hes big boned.
