Siena Survives

-Saints erase early 14 point deficit for comeback victory 59-53 over Northeastern.

Siena was not on its game early in this contest. Midway through the second half they were trailing 20-6 and had no answers on the offensive end. They slowly battled back through the end of the first half to bring the score to a reachable 20-26 at Halftime.

From there on the saints looked like the team we expect to see a lot of this season. Their swarming defense proved to be too much for the Huskies to handle. Siena took double digit leads at a couple different points in the second half but Northeastern stayed tough till the end. Siena held Northeastern star guard Matt Janning to just 2 second half points, while Siena's Ryan Rossiter tallied all of his 13 points in the later half. Another Highlight throughout the game was Siena's top dog, Edwin Ubiles who had a game high 26 points along with 8 boards, 4 steals and 3 assists. Ubiles is on many NBA teams watch lists and if he keeps putting up numbers like he did today, it's a safe bet we will be seeing him at the next level come Fall 2010.

This was Siena's 22nd straight home victory, dating back to the 07-08 season. The Saints will next be in action Saturday the 21st as they travel to take on Temple. With a win in Philly Saturday night the Saints could be looking at a spot in the top 25 polls across the Nation.

As for Northeastern, have a safe drive home to Boston. NY-1, Boston-0.

Check in tonight and follow Hofstra and guard Charles Jenkins as they take on the Huskies of UCONN @ 7pm. Game can be seen on SNY in the New York area.
