What Are The Chances Anyone Actually Believes This Girl?

Story Courtesy of the Associated Press and Yahoo! Sports...

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP)—Three players on Sacred Heart University’s men’s lacrosse team have been charged with sexually assaulting an 18-year-old female student.
Police charged 18-year-old Nicholas Travers of Smithtown, N.Y., 18-year-old Zachari Triner of Mansfield, Mass., and 19-year-old Timothy Sanders of Ashburn, Va., with conspiracy to commit first-degree sexual assault Sunday.
The Connecticut Post reports that authorities say Sanders and the woman were having consensual sex in a dorm, when Sanders suddenly summoned the other two men to the room. Police say Travers and Triner sexually assaulted the woman while Sanders held her down.
Sanders’ lawyer says the allegations are “grossly exaggerated.” Police say Triner denied touching the girl, and Travers denied knowing anything about what happened.

We all know "innocent until proven guilty" has pretty much turned into "guilty until proven Innocent," but with so many alleged rapes turning into cases of the girl(s) who cried wolf...Who are we lead to believe in these situations?

Its unfair to automatically assume that every "rape" victim lying...But with so many cases to speak of in recent years in which the accuser has turned out to be lying we at least have to be more skeptical of these accusations. The fine line between what is considered consensual sex and what is considered rape has gotten even thinner.

It' seems that's girls have used the "OH I was raped" excuse to attempt to justify their sexual escapades as often as they have used plan B pill if their boyfriends condom broke.

I want to believe this girl, because more times than not a rape victim is telling the truth, but every time a girl lies about being raped it becomes harder and harder to believe the next "victim." False accusations of rape affects and hurts so many people...First and foremost it does irreversible damage to any person and family member involved, both on the accuse and accused side. And more importantly it makes real rape victims fear that no one will believe them if they come forward.

Trust me if a girl is really raped I want them to come forward...But please if you wake up the next morning from a night of consensual sex and you aren't proud of what you did, don't cry rape. You have no idea the backlash and domino effect it will cause. Instead look inside yourself, and ask yourself why you involve yourself in these acts. Because in the end if its found out that you were lying it will probably hurt more then if your were actually raped.

When it comes to this incident I'm not sure who to believe because the story is so new. With that said I wouldn't be too surprised if the accuser was lying. Maybe she wanted a gang bang, and woke in the morning and feared that her name would be smeared around campus...Who knows, whatever the case I just hope the American Justice System is able to do its job.

Was it really necessary for the media to print the names of the accused at this stage?

Maybe a "rape shield" law ought also to apply to accused persons, until they are tried and convicted?
