Celtics, KG down Knicks in OT 107-105

Okay, I know what you're thinking. "Why write about a narrow victory against the lowly Knicks? You should be upset by the Celtics playing down to their competition." And in some ways, I am. Sure, they should've blown out a 2-win Knicks team. But the fact is they took care of business when they had to, and their vocal leader stepped up to the plate and delivered the dagger at the buzzer.

It's a worthy story to write, not because of the game, but rather the emotions of New York fans after the game.

Think about it, the Knicks have been in the news a lot recently because of the lack of buzz the team brings. Allen Iverson's name was being dropped as a possible answer. But even "the Answer" isn't the solution to the Knicks biggest problem: they suck and they play in New York. Donnie Walsh doesn't want to spend any money for an expensive plug to the leak, he just wants to buy a new boat this summer. So him and coach D'Antoni will build up and discipline the young core they have and land a few big stars in the summer.

The Knicks not only don't have talent, but they lack cohesiveness as well. Over the weekend Nate Robinson's dumb ass shoots a meaningless shot at the wrong basket and makes it. Now the basket didn't count for the clock had already run out, but where is this type of shot when the game matters? How can you joke around and throw up trick shots like it's the God-damn And1 Tour when you're team is the laughing stock of --not only the league--but sports.

Which brings me to the Celtics-Knicks game. This was the Knicks' game. They played us tough at MSG. And if they were to beat the Celtics--not just a great team, but a division rival. This would've been the victory Knicks fans could've hung onto, emotionally. But instead the game served as another example for their pitiful season. The Knicks can see a dim light at the end of the tunnel (the 2010 free agent class) but right now they walking in the dark without a light.
