Islanders handle Red Wings...

The Islanders are another New York team that doesn't get enough face time on The Improp. I'm willing to take this one on the chin, and place the blame squarely on myself, Ive been slacking on my Islanders coverage, and maybe tonight's 6-0 shellacking of the Detroit Red Wings is the eye opener I needed. The Islanders looked awesome tonight, and have been red hot over the last 10 games going 7-2-1. After a cold December these guys have thrusted themselves right back into the playoff hunt. If this team continues to grow and mature throughout the season like they've done thus far, I promise they will be a force not to be reckoned with come spring time. Its really neat to see all these young players step up and improve every night. Tavares, Moulson, and Roli carried this team through October, and November, then got cold and no one was there to fill the void. Finally other players have gotten their games on track, and this truly has become a team effort. I'm looking forward to seeing what the Islanders do come the trade deadline which is March 3rd. At this point I would have to assume the Islanders would be buyers in 2010 if they continue to play like this. Perhaps they make a move similar to the one that brought Ryan Smyth to the Island in 2007. Although Smyth didn't resign with the Islanders it did bring a sense of legitimacy to the Island post-lockout, and propelled the Islanders to the playoffs that year. I have faith Garth Snow will get it right this year, I think hes one of the most underrated GM's in the NHL.
