No pants subway ride?

So I stumbled across this story on this lovely Sunday morning. Its called the no pants subway ride and it takes place every year in New York. Only reason I even bothered to post it is because apparently its supossed to be going on today. Im not sure what exactally the point is, or if theres a cause behind it, but all I can think of is these people are out of their minds! Its supossed to be like 20 degrees tomorrow in the city. Have fun with that one. I can't see any reason anyone would do this. Then again, I could think of a few possible benefits to this ridiculous idea, including the cutie in pink around 1:37 of the video. For anyone who is going to this or knows anything about it please comment and let me know what exactally its for. I might be gearing up for the year 2011 no pants subway ride.
