JaMarcus Russell...A man committed to his craft.
According to the Oakland Tribune former #1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell elected to skip the Raiders final team meeting of the season. Where was he you might ask...Was he sick, H1N1? Did he have car problems? Perhaps he was having trouble popping in those 3 kt. diamond studs he rocks during games? Unfortunately if you guessed any of the above you would be wrong...The tabloid is reporting that Russell blew off the meeting to shot craps at the Palms in Las Vegas.
Not only is this guy the biggest QB bust since Ryan Leaf, he is a legit ruh-tard. I have a theory about players who end up being draft busts--As long as you try hard, show your committed, do everything that is asked of you, and overall just do the right thing I cant get mad at the player. As long as the players puts forth 100% effort than you cant fault him because a GM and owner decided to wager their franchises future on him. Plenty of this kids who are being drafted are coming from poverty, so I can understand why they would want to put themselves in the best draft position possible. But if you wanna get paid the big bucks, you gotta at least show you care...Something Russell has not shown one iota of since he was drafted in 2007.
In my opinion Russell has plenty of potential, I think he had a pretty respectable season in '08, considering that was his first true full season...but he still is raw, and needs to be committed for a full off season to right this ship. Unfortunately for Russell no matter what he does in the following weeks and months, it might be too little to late.
Good thing the commish Roger Goodell is considering putting a cap on rookie salaries, because when draft picks end up like JaMarcus Russell the risk and gamble is never nearly worth the reward.
