BREAKING NEWS: Paul Pierce out for 2 weeks

NYTimes.com- Boston Celtics forward Paul Pierce had fluid drained from his right knee Wednesday and and is expected to miss two weeks, the team said.

Pierce, who is averaging a team-high 18.2 points a game, will not travel with the team on its six-day trip, which includes games against the Orlando Magic (Dec. 25), the Los Angeles Clippers (Dec. 27), the Golden State Warriors (Dec. 28) and the Phoenix Suns (Dec. 30).

This is a huge blow for the Celtics, who had Kevin Garnett out last night with a thigh bruise. Not to mention Rasheed Wallace was ailing last night as well. We can only hope that it is indeed only two weeks and it doesn't turn into a reoccurring injury like KG's knee last season.

This will make the game against the Magic on Christmas that much more difficult. While the C's may have been able to go to seven games against the Magic without KG in the 2009 Eastern Conference Semis, but without Pierce they'll have trouble scoring the ball without question. Pierce's scoring ability and offensive leadership is equally comparable, if not more important, than Garnett's defensive prowess. And it will show as the C's will struggle to score points.
