Islanders take care of Blue Skirts

Its New York versus New York, its like black on black crime--it just ain't right, unless of course its the Islanders and the Rangers. As a Yankees, and Jets fan I dislike the Mets and Giants, but I do,at times root for them. After all they still are New York, and ill take that any day over some team from B*tchton-- but with that said, I HATE the Rangers, and the circumstances have to be rather unique for me to root for them.

The Islanders are feisty, they play their outs night in and night out--sure they lose some games 7-1, 6-0, but they still leave it all out on the ice...And tonight was no different. For most of the 2-1 Islanders victory the Rangers outplayed the Islanders, but the Islanders played harder when they needed too, sneaking two goals past Rangers net minder Henrik Lundquiest on pure hustle alone. Both Lundquist, and Islanders goalie Dwayne Rolson were outstanding tonight. Rolson was able to stand strong, even after some extra curricular activity from Rangers resident goon Sean Avery.

Tonight marked the first game for John Tavares at the Garden. Although he didn't garner a point tonight, his teammates picked him up, and at this stage there is no denying this kid is a flat out stud. Tavares has the potential to be even better than the Islanders had initially hoped when they made him the first overall pick in this years entry draft.

Both these teams are fighting for playoffs spots, and tonight the Islanders fought just a little bit harder. That's what you gotta love about this rivalry--first place, last place, no matter where this teams lie in the standings you're going to get the best from them every time they lace up their skates. Hard shooting, hard hitting, and fast paced action. The best part about it? The Islanders host the Rangers tomorrow night at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum to close out the home and home series between these two Atlantic Division foes...So until tomorrow night...LETS GO IS-LAND-ERS!!!
